The Kerala Story

Plot

The Kerala Story follows the journey of Shalini Unnikrishnan (Adah Sharma), a young Hindu woman from Kerala, who becomes the victim of a complex and sinister plot involving radicalization and religious conversion. Shalini, along with her friends Geetanjali (Sonia Balani), Nimah (Yogita Bihani), and Asifa (Siddhi Idnani), lead typical lives as college students. However, their lives take a dark turn when they are systematically coerced into converting to Islam under the influence of extremist recruiters. Asifa, who appears to be a friend, is revealed to be part of a network that manipulates vulnerable women into abandoning their identities, families, and religions. Under the pretext of love and companionship, the women are drawn into extremist ideologies. Shalini is coerced into changing her name to Fatima and ultimately trafficked to join the Islamic State (ISIS). The film portrays their harrowing experiences as they are indoctrinated, radicalized, and eventually sent to conflict zones. The Kerala Story explores the psychological manipulation involved in this process and the dangerous consequences that follow, as the women find themselves trapped in a web of violence and extremism. While the film presents itself as based on true events, it has sparked controversy for its portrayal of the "love jihad" conspiracy, with disclaimers clarifying its fictionalized nature.
