Plot
The Kashmir Files follows the journey of Krishna Pandit (Darshan Kumar), a young student who embarks on a quest to uncover the truth about his family’s past and the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus in 1990. Raised outside Kashmir with little knowledge of the traumatic events, Krishna initially believes in the mainstream narrative that downplays the severity of his community’s suffering. However, after the death of his grandfather, Pushkar Nath (Anupam Kher), he is compelled to dig deeper into his roots. Through his grandfather’s friends and other survivors, Krishna learns about the horrific events that led to the mass displacement of Kashmiri Hindus. The film presents the exodus as a planned genocide, detailing the violence, fear, and betrayal faced by the community. As Krishna confronts stories of brutality and a history that has been largely hidden, he grapples with anger, sorrow, and a sense of loss. The Kashmir Files raises questions about historical memory, justice, and identity, portraying the tragedy of displacement and the lasting impact on those who survived. Through Krishna's transformation, the film urges viewers to remember the exodus as an important chapter in Indian history, highlighting themes of trauma, resilience, and the quest for truth in the face of silence.
