Plot

Sharmaji Namkeen follows Brij Gopal Sharma, affectionately known as Sharmaji (played by both Rishi Kapoor and Paresh Rawal in a unique dual performance due to Kapoor's passing during filming). A recently retired middle-class man, Sharmaji struggles to fill his newfound free time and faces the isolation of an empty nest, with his two grown sons busy with their own lives. Used to the structure and purpose of a job, he finds himself bored and aimless. On a friend’s suggestion, Sharmaji pursues his passion for cooking by joining a small catering gig. Through this new role, he unexpectedly encounters a lively group of older women who hire him as their cook for gatherings and events. Their camaraderie introduces Sharmaji to a new world of friendship, self-expression, and unexpected joy, as he becomes more deeply involved in their social circle. His unconventional new hobby, however, doesn’t sit well with his family, especially his sons, who worry about societal perceptions. The film explores Sharmaji's journey to rediscover himself, challenging traditional family roles and expectations. Sharmaji Namkeen is a heartwarming story about embracing change, finding joy in the ordinary, and proving that it’s never too late to follow one's passions.
