Plot

Kathal – A Jackfruit Mystery is a satirical comedy-drama set in a small Indian town, revolving around a bizarre case involving two missing jackfruits. The story follows Mahima Basor (Sanya Malhotra), an enthusiastic young police officer, tasked with investigating the strange disappearance of the prized jackfruits from the garden of a local politician, MLA Munnalal Pateria (Vijay Raaz). The jackfruits, unusually large and valuable, are considered vital to the politician’s reputation and upcoming political event. Despite the triviality of the case, Mahima takes the investigation seriously, as it becomes a symbol of the absurd priorities in the town’s law enforcement system. As she navigates the case, she encounters an array of eccentric characters, including a nosy journalist (Rajpal Yadav) and a disgruntled gardener, while dealing with the political pressure to solve the case quickly. As the investigation progresses, Mahima uncovers hidden secrets, corruption, and societal inequalities, all wrapped up in humorous and satirical commentary. The film humorously highlights the absurdity of power dynamics in rural India, as serious crimes are ignored while an over-the-top effort is made to recover the missing jackfruits.
