Plot
Goldfish is a poignant drama that explores the complex relationship between a mother and daughter, delving into themes of memory, identity, and reconciliation. The film follows Anamika (Kalki Koechlin), a young woman of Indian-British heritage, who returns to her childhood home in London after learning that her mother, Sadhana (Deepti Naval), is suffering from dementia. Anamika, who had distanced herself from her mother and her past, is forced to confront old wounds and unresolved emotions upon her return. Sadhana, a once-strong and independent woman, now struggles with the gradual loss of her memories, including the ones that define her relationship with her daughter. As Anamika deals with the challenges of caring for her mother, she also reconnects with her Indian roots, questioning her sense of identity and belonging. The presence of Gordon Warnecke's character, a neighbor and family friend, adds a layer of support and complexity to Anamika’s journey as she navigates the emotional turmoil. As the film unfolds, Goldfish becomes a tender exploration of the delicate bond between parent and child, the pain of losing oneself to illness, and the possibility of finding closure amidst loss. The story is a sensitive reflection on the fragility of human relationships, identity, and the power of forgiveness.
