GOAT (The Greatest of All Time) Movie Review
Plot
GOAT (The Greatest of All Time) is an action-packed thriller featuring Ilayathalapathy Vijay in a dual role as Gandhi and Sanjay. The story kicks off in Kenya, 2008, where Gandhi, a member of a special anti-terrorist squad (SATS), and his team retrieve stolen uranium from terrorists. Returning to India, Gandhi faces backlash from his chief for the chaos caused during the mission. To reconcile with his pregnant wife Anu and son Jeevan, he plans a family trip to Thailand. However, things spiral out of control when his family is attacked, leaving his son dead and his wife in critical condition. Years later, Gandhi, now in a desk job and separated from his wife, is pulled back into action when a new threat emerges. The movie’s core is Gandhi’s quest for revenge and redemption, balancing his roles as a soldier and a broken family man.
Review
GOAT delivers an exciting blend of action, drama, and family emotions. Vijay shines in both roles, portraying two contrasting characters with finesse. The film balances high-octane missions and deeply personal struggles, keeping the audience engaged. Director Venkat Prabhu successfully crafts a narrative that appeals to both action lovers and fans of emotional drama. The film’s first half builds up the suspense, while the second half dives into the conflict between Gandhi and Sanjay, delivering intense moments and satisfying twists.
The supporting cast, including Prabhu Deva, Sneha, and others, add depth to the storyline, and the film’s pacing is largely solid, although there are some predictable moments. Yuvan Shankar Raja's music, especially the background score, elevates key scenes, while the remixed Ilaiyaraja song adds a nostalgic touch.
Direction
Director Venkat Prabhu excels in creating a globally set story filled with action, humor, and family sentiment. He uses Vijay’s charm and versatility effectively, making both characters stand out. Prabhu also includes clever tributes to Kollywood and Vijay’s iconic past roles, which will thrill hardcore fans. The film’s execution, particularly in the first half, is gripping, with a surprising interval block that sets the stage for a powerful climax.
Why to Watch
If you're a Vijay fan, GOAT is a must-watch for its double dose of action and charm. The film offers an engaging story with emotional depth, plenty of action, and a nostalgic nod to past cinematic greats. For those who enjoy well-executed thrillers with strong characters and high stakes, GOAT is a thoroughly entertaining ride.
